Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Once again in Dromore we have contributed to the happiness of many children by supporting the team hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. We would like to thank everyone for their genorosity and kindness in supporting the appeal.

Science & Maths Week

Science & Maths week was a great success with every class taking part! This all goes towards the Award for Science  & Maths that we were successful in receiving this past three years.   

Thank you

A special thanks to Kevin Dolan who kindly volunteered his time and expertise to crown and remove lower branches of the trees at the front of the school. He certainly did an excellent job.

New Build

Fifth and sixth class have settled well into their new classrooms. We are delighted to have such a lovely space for the children to grow and learn.

Christmas Lights at the Cross!

On Sunday the 24th of November, the official switching on of the lights took place at the Cross. It was a lovely event for the community. Thanks to all involved in organising it. A special thanks to our fith and sixth classes for all their work in preparing for the stall and to our Junior Infants for their beautiful singing and dancing at the event.

Carol Service

The Dromore N.S. Choir will sing in the chapel on Sunday the 15th of December at 6pm along with other local schools for a Carol Service. All parents are welcome to this festive and joyful event.

 

School Planning Day

School will be closed for pupils on Friday the 10th of January to facilitate planning for staff on the Language Curriculum.

Glenveagh

4th class were learning about the history of Glenveagh Park and Castle and the mountains of Donegal. They travelled to Glenveagh and they children really enjoyed exploring the National Park and Castle along with the Derryveagh mountains.

Hurling

Third and fourth classes have been enjoying hurling with Marty Mc Grath and Declan Sherlock every Monday. They will play a mini blitz with Gleneely at the end of the sessions.

Rugby

Fifth and sixth classes have been busy practicing their rugby skills with Alan Mc Crea.

Dance

All classes have been participating in dance classes with Tanya Ward. We look forward to them showcasing their talents at the Christmas plays.

Athletics

Mark Connolly is in every Wednesday putting all classes through their paces with atheltics training.

September Newsletter 2019

It is hard to believe that September is over! Everyone has settled in well to the new school year.

Dromore 104

On Friday 13th of September we hosted our fourth 5k to celebrate 104 years of Dromore! All this would not have been possible without the very generous support of our parents and staff-donating spotprizes, items for our hampers, vouchers,helping with refreshments etc. A special thank you to Dermot McGranaghan and the staff in our school who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

Transitions Information Evening

We are holding a “Transitions evening” for parents of pupils with autism and or additional needs, in the school on Thursday Oct the 10th at 7pm. This will be delivered by Belinda Walters. Other parents in the community are welcome also, please spread the word. Booking by telephoning school office on 074 9149455

WOW, COW, SOW Day

We will hold our Walk on Wednesday, Cycle on Wednesday or Scoot on Wednesday this Wednesday the 2nd of October. Everyone to congregate at the Chapel Car Park for departure at 9.10 am. All parents are welcome to join in also.

Cross Country

Well done to all the boys and girls who participated in the Primary Schools Cross Country event held in the Finn Valley A.C. on Tuesday 17th of September. As usual, they did the school proud by returning with many gold, silver and bronze medals.

Golf Classic

A grand total of €5295 was raised at the Golf Classic held in June organised by our Parents Association. We especially thank Pauline and Victor Byrne for all their hard work in ensuring it was a success.

Northwest Bike Show

Thank you to the "Northwest Bike Show" for their kind donation of 495 euro, which was raised at their charity weekend. We really appreciate it.

European Week of Sport

All classes enjoyed a week of activities as part of being Active for European Week of Sport. They particularly enjoyed the ‘Take on the Teachers’ challenge.

Green Schools Workshop

Fifth and sixth classes enjoyed a workshop on Global Citizenship on the theme of travel as part of the renewal of our eighth green flag. The Green Team are asking all parents to be mindful and turn off their car engines when sitting idol.

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of another academic year and what a great year it has been in Dromore. We would like to thank all the parents and school community for your support throughout the year and we look forward to welcoming you all back on Thursday 29th of August. We hope that everyone has a lovely summer and that the children enjoy their well deserved break!

School will close on Friday 28th at 12.30.

6th Class

We say farewell to our current 6th class- Oisín Coyle, Tristan Coyle, Sasha Crawford, Evie Cullinan, Aine Cullen, Caolán Duffy, Eimear Ewing, Ultán Gallagher, Conor Galvin, Travis Gibson, Luke Holmes, Cassie Brogan, John Gregg, Sophie Irwin, Andrew Jansen, P.J Kelly, George Kirk, Daniel Lafferty, Mollie Mc Auley, Kristine Mc Clay, Miá Mc Connell, Eabha Mc Laughlin, Madison Mc Menamin, Ellie Murray, Ellie Rigby & Joseph Sharkey.  We wish them well on their continued journey onto secondary school. We hope that they take them with them fond memories of their time in Dromore and they always strive to do their best in life. Graduation Day was held yesterday and it was a great celebration for the children. A special thanks to all involved in making it a day to remember.

Summer Camps

We are delighted to offer once again, summer camps which are being funded by our school and are free of charge to our pupils.

  • Red Hughs- 2nd, 3rd, 4th   of July from 10am -1pm
  • Setanta- 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th of July from 11am- 2pm

Cycle Training

Our children recently took part in 'Green Schools' cycle skills training programme. They learned good bike control, stopping, starting, turning, riding with one hand to signal etc. Thanks to everyone involved in the training.

 

Trip to the Aviva

A great day was had by all who attended the Aviva Stadium. What a wonderful occasion and experience for the children to watch their country play and win in the Aviva stadium! Thanks to the FAI for providing the tickets and transport and the staff who accompanied them.

 

Dromore Talk 6

Well done to rang a sé for producing a great magazine Dromore Talk 7. It is on sale from the school in the mornings, at the school síopa and during lunch. Price €5. A big thanks to Gerard Doherty, our chief editor and Ms. English in helping us publish it and to all our sponsors for their generous sponsorships.

 

Raising of the Flags

We had a lovely day raising our 8th Green Flag and our 3rd Active Flag. A special thanks to the Green team, the Blue team, Ms. Mc Elchar and Ms. Byrne for all their hard work.

Cake Sale

A sincere thank you to all involved in making our Cake Sale a huge success once again. Parents, staff, pupils and especially our Pupil's Council- Ellie, Ultan, Conor, Ciara, Caoimhe, Killian, Grace and Danny, We are delighted to announce that a total of €1010 was raised, which will be used for resources for the infant classrooms. Well done everyone!!

Discover Primary Science Award of Excellence

Congratulations to children and staff of Dromore for once again receiving the prestigious award of Excellence in Science and Maths. All year every class have been experimenting, investigating, observing and exploring. This is our fourth year to receive the award!! A special thank you to Ms. Doherty for collating all the evidence and applying for the award on behalf of the school.

Sports Day

Our annual Sports Day will take place on Wednesday 12th of June (weather permitting). We look forward to seeing many of you there.  

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to all the children who received the Sacrament of Communion on Saturday 11th of May. Golf Classic

Calling all golfers for a great days entertainment with wonderful prizes.The Golf Classic will be held on Friday 28th of June in Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club. Row the River Finn

A special thanks to Shaun Mc Glynn ‘Pro Fitness’ who visited us with a generous cheque for 6,631.72 euro, which was raised recently at the ‘Row the River Finn’ Sincere thanks to everyone who played a role in this fundraiser from donating to participating, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Visit from Liz Weir

The children enjoyed a lovely experience with a visit from award winning children’s author, Liz Weir. She told them stories and explained about storytelling and publishing stories. The senior children asked some interesting questions regarding genre, inspiration to write and overcoming writer’s block. We look forward to her return next year.

Rosary

Thank you to the Legion of Mary ladies who have said the rosary with the senior classes during the month of May.

Northwest Bike Show

The Northwest Bikeshow will host a two day event on the 16th and 17th of August. Activites will include music, a barbeque, 5 a side football, bouncy castles, a pet show, car show, bike show and much much more. Proceeds will go towards our school. Keep an eye on our facebook page for more details and pencil it in to your diaries for what is sure to be a great event!

Finn Valley County Finals

Well done to all our boys and girls who took part in the Finn Valley Sports County Finals. Many our pupils represented the school and we are very proud of them both for their good behaviour up at the sports and of their achievements in the track and field events. We came home with lots  of medals , which is brilliant at this level. Thanks to our coach Mark, Ms. Mc Elchar and everyone who helped out over the two days of the Finn Valley Sports. It was a great experience for all involved.

ICA Ladies

Sincere thanks to the 'Finn Valley I.C.A' ladies for donating 500 euro to the autism unit. The money will be used to install a swing and trampoline in the ‘Active Sensory Room’. Thank you for thinking about us, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Arrival of the Dromore Slide

Big excitement with the arrival of the Dromore Slide! Thanks to Victor and Pauline Byrne who acquired this outstanding robust slide for Dromore. Councillor Patrick Mc Gowan  kindly paid for the ‘Safe Pass Certificate’ Lastly the generosity of our families in the recent Easter draw which paid for its transportation, assembly and a fence along the roadside. I’m sure the children of Dromore will have years of safe fun on the slide.

Swimming Certificates

Congratulations to the children from 3rd class, who received certificates up to level 8 in swimming. Well done children!

.St. Blaize

Fr. Lynch came to the school in early February to bless everybody’s throat individually in honour of St. Blaize whose feast day is celebrated on 2nd February

Grandparents’ Day

On the 13th of February we welcomed over 40 grandparents to our school. This was a lovely occasion where the 5th class children had the opportunity to show their grandparents what life in Dromore is like. There were lots of activities, songs and poems on the day and everyone appeared to have a wonderful afternoon. A special thanks to Ms. Reynolds, Denise and all who helped to make Grandparents’ Day a great success.

Enrolment

We held our annual enrolment day on Wednesday 13th . We were delighted to welcome our prospctive new pupils and their parents that afternoon and to show them around our school. They were given the opportunity to meet their teacher and play with their friends

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge will be celebrated in the school from Monday 11th to Friday 15th of March. Children will be encouraged to use their “cúpla focail” as Gaeilge both in class and on the yard. At  Teacht le Chéile each class will be given the opportunity to do a performance as Gaeilge. On Thursday 14th we will have a Lá Glas- children will be encouraged to come to school dressed in green.

 

World Book Day

World Book Day is celebrated on Thursday the 7th of March. As part of this the children are allowed to dress as their favourite character from a book. Lots of different activities will take place in school on this day.

Cinema Trip

The cinema trip will take place on Friday 15th March. The cost including admission, popcorn, drink and bus is 12 euro.

 

Indoor Football

Well done to our boys and girls who partcipated in an indoor football competition in the CPI centre in Castlefin. The girls played two fantastic games against Castlefin and Convoy. The boys won both games and have qualified for the county finals later this month.

People Who Help Us

Réiltíní 1 and 2 had a very enjoyable trip when they went to visit the Fire Station and our local Library. They had first hand experience of these committed and generous minded people and even got to spray water from the fireman,s hose. They also got a storytime session in the library. Thank you to all those involved.

 Quizes

Well done to Áine Cullen, Madison McMenamin, Kristina McClay, Caolan Duffy and Conor Galvin who represented us so well in the Credit Union Quiz which was held recently in Jackson’s Hotel. Also congratulations are due to Tristan Coyle, Kristana McClay, Ellie Rigby, Ultán Gallagher and Joseph Sharkey who did the school proud with their performance in the Garda Road Safety Quiz in Letterkenny.

Donegal’s Fastest Child

The Donegal’s Fastest Chid Challenge was held recently in the Finn Valley Athletic Centre . We were proudly represented by Luca Ferriter, Katie Dolan, Ava Devine and Danann Harron Gillespie.

Camogie and Hurling

Congratulations to our Girl’s Camogie team and Boy’s Hurling team on reaching the County Indoor Finals in Burt.Unfortunately the results didn’t go our way but well done to the children for representing our school so well!

Cake Sale

Our ‘Pupil’s Council’ are organising our annual ‘Cake Sale’ which will be held this Thursday 31st of May. All parents are welcome to attend for tea and a treat between 11am and 12:30pm. We kindly ask if  all families could donate some baked or bought items. Please label all boxes/tins clearly for return.

On Wednesday the 30th we will hold a whole school dance in aid of ‘Relay for Life’. All families are asked to donate 1 euro to this very worthy cause. Keep an eye on our school facebook for a video of the event.

Rosary

Cumann ns mBunscol

Well done to Caolan Duffy, Colm Coyle and Eimear Ewing  who were picked to play for the Donegal Cumann na mBunscol school teams for both hurling and gaelic. They represented our school so well and we were very proud of them.

Finn Valley County Finals

Well done to all our boys and girls who took part in the Finn Valley Sports County Finals. Many our pupils represented the school and we are very proud of them both for their good behaviour up at the sports and of their achievements in the track and field events. We came home with lots  of medals , which is brilliant at this level. Thanks to our coach Dermot, Ms. Mc Elchar and everyone who helped out over the two days of the Finn Valley Sports. It was a great experience for all involved.

Finn Harps Frans Field Cup

Well done to our boys and girls teams who took part in the Finn Harps Fran Fields Cup  at the sunny Harps Academy. Our boys made home advantage count and were victorious in this great football tournament. They won all 5 of their matches and didn't concede a single goal, fantastic achievement. The team played some brilliant football and displayed super skills throughout the day. The boys team were: Oisín Duffy (c), Oisín Coyle, Conor Galvin, Bryan Irwin, Cathaír Browne, Caolán Duffy and Conor Gallen. Our girls team were unlucky not to get through the group stages, drawing two matches and losing just one. The children represented our school well and were commended on their good behaviour.
